12 employees graduate from Elior’s career-development training program to become new sector managers

"I was taken on as a cook and then worked my way up in the Group as chef manager, multi-site manager, operations manager". Christophe Monneuse joined Elior 20 years ago as a cook in a retirement home. In 2019, his manager offered him the opportunity to sign up for the diploma course. He is now sector manager for the north of France. For three years, Elior has been offering restaurant managers a certification course enabling them to become sector managers and develop their careers in the company. This year, 12 people graduated after 18 months of training.

Elior sector managers are responsible for several restaurants in a specific geographical area. Their missions include leading and managing their teams, building customer loyalty, and boosting sales. The aim of the diploma offered by Elior, in partnership with Sciences Po, is therefore to develop the skills of restaurant managers. “Despite the sanitary crisis and the remote learning courses which complicated the organization of the training program, I discovered some very interesting topics. Theoretical courses given by Sciences Po lecturers, were completed by more operational courses from Elior lecturers.“ During the training program, Christophe and the 11 other students addressed the following topics: time management, introduction to food tech, design thinking, leadership and management, change management, finance, HR, negotiation, and legal aspects, etc.
Even before obtaining his diploma, Christophe had been appointed sector manager for a medico-social scope. He worked hard to obtain his diploma while having to manage the restaurants he was responsible for. “For the subject of my thesis, I chose responsible purchasing since I knew I would need this in my new job. It was also a choice I could get my team and my clients involved in. The restaurant managers of the 2021 class have demonstrated their motivation and commitment. The 18-month diploma preparation period gave them an overview of their new job as sector managers. “Although starting a new job at the same time as taking this course was not easy, the training program helped me to understand the challenges of the position of sector manager and to understand the expectations of my hierarchy and my clients ".
