Anti-waste recipe: Mac & Cheese

We propose you with Too Good To Go, a recipe for macaroni and cheese, a true institution in the United States. One of the most delicious and comforting dishes that Americans love.

Ingredients for 4 persons
  • 400 g of pasta
  • 30 g of butter
  • 15 g of flour
  • 60 cl of milk
  • 25 g of breadcrumbs made with stale bread
  • 300 g of cheese
  • Salt
  • Pepper

The concept is very simple: pasta, cheese, cheese, more cheese, and then, free to each person to add his or her own personal touch, by incorporating leftover vegetables or deli meats for example! It's by definition a zero-waste recipe because you can add anything you want and, above all, anything you have in your fridge!

1.    Cook your pasta according to the directions given on the packaging

2.    In a saucepan, melt the butter

3.    Add the flour and mix until the butter is well combined

4.    Very slowly, add the milk and keep mixing until it thicken up

5.    Add half of the cheese (keep the rest aside) and let it melt - keep mixing

6.    In an oven dish, pour the sauce and the pasta, mix everything together

7.    In a bowl, mix the remaining of the cheese & the breadcrumbs

8.    Pour the mix at the top of the dish

9.    Place it in the oven and cook it at 180 °C for 30 minutes

Anti-waste tip:

The original recipe suggests macaroni and is mainly made with cheddar cheese, but take the opportunity to empty all your pasta packets and mix the different cheeses in your fridge: reblochon, comté, emmental etc. You can also add other leftovers from your fridge as you wish: deli meats, vegetables...
